According to Lubbock Fire & Rescue, the firefighter who was injured in yesterday's crash on I-27 N, 30-year-old Matt Dawson,  is "doing better than expected."

In a Facebook post late Sunday afternoon, the department shared an update on Dawson's condition.

They say UMC doctors have reduced sedatives, and will determine if he is well enough to undergo surgery on his legs tomorrow.

Dawson has also broken the major bones in his face.

On a positive note, he has been responding to his wife, and has had a good response to neurological checks, meaning he can wiggle his fingers and toes.
