UMC breaks ground on east Lubbock EMS station
A new EMS station is being built in east Lubbock. UMC broke ground on the "station one" pilot Monday.
Paramedics will be positioned on East Ninth Street near MLK Blvd. It will also serve as a communication and 911 dispatch center.
EMS administrators say it will leverage technology to optimize its services in this part of the city.
"We don't have anything in this neighborhood, per se, so it's advantageous from that aspect," Thomas Moore with UMC EMS said. "It's also advantageous because it allows for us to invest in the local economy in this community because we're going to have a number of staff that're going to report to this location for duty each day."
Station one is being built with growth in mind, able to expand and add staffing. It is set to open before the end of 2020.
