A murder in southeast Lubbock late Saturday night was the result of relatives fighting after leaving a bar.

Adrian R. Castillo, 34, is charged with murder in the shooting death of George "Thomas" Garcia Jr., 34.

According to an arrest warrant, the victim's common law wife Valerie Castillo told detectives she, her father Sammy Castillo, her brother Adrian Castillo, her sister-in-law Andrea Castillo and Garcia left the bar in her brother's pick-up. She started arguing with her father when her husband tried to intervene.

Garcia and her father Sammy Castillo started assaulting each other in the back seat, according to the warrant. She said, only a few blocks from the bar, on the South Loop just west of Interstate 27,  her brother Adrian stopped the truck and fired a shot from a handgun out the driver's window, into the air. Adrian Castillo asked them to stop fighting or he would shoot them.

The warrant states the two men didn't stop fighting, so Adrian Garcia shot Garcia. Garcia got out of the truck and collapsed.

Adrian Castillo told detectives he didn't know why everyone in the back seat was arguing. He said the initial shot out the window was an effort to make them stop. Since that didn't work, according to this filing, Adrian Castillo said he shot Garcia. Garcia got out of the truck and they drove off.

As of Monday morning, Adrian Castillo remains in the Lubbock County Detention Center. He is held on a $200,000 bond. He was arrested Sunday morning, about eight hours after the shooting.
