Man killed in head-on crash in Lea County
From New Mexico State Police:
On Thursday just before 1 p.m., the New Mexico State Police investigated a fatal crash on NM Highway 176, near mile post 39, west of Eunice.
Investigators say a Dodge driven by Erik Navarrette, 20, was traveling west on NM Highway 176 and crossed over the center line into eastbound traffic. Navarrette collided head-on into a Ford that was traveling east.
Navarrette was taken to the hospital where he later died. A 24-year-old passenger in the Dodge sustained injuries believed to be non-life threatening and was also taken to the hospital.
The driver of the Ford, a 19-year-old from Andrews, Texas also sustained injuries believed to be non-life threatening and was taken to the hospital.
Alcohol does not appear to be a factor and seatbelts appear to have been properly utilized. No additional information is available.
