For ten years Financial Women in Texas has empowered women's professional growth throughout the state.

It's mission is women helping women succeed by offering leadership, development and mentoring opportunities.

"Being able to learn with women who have been there before, who have done what you're trying to do, help lead the way for you and become a mentor for you," Association President Judy Helms said. "It's just been invaluable and I can't say enough about the value and benefit of membership."

She said the organization welcomes women looking to make a mark in the finance world.

"You can be a CPA, a realtor, work at a title company, a book keeper, an economic professor. Anyone that has any type of interest in finance it's a great opportunity to come to further your professional development," she said.

She added the West Texas group played a role in growing membership.

"So from 2009 we've grown to 10 groups throughout the state of Texas, almost 300 members. And our own Llano Estacado Group here in Lubbock was one of the founding groups," she said.

McKinzie Smith, Membership Chair of the Llano Estacado Group, said since joining the organization last year its made a positive impact on her career growth.

"It's made me grow as a person, I've definitely learned a lot. In the group I've had some great opportunities to share with other women, things that I've learned from speakers and events that we've had," she said.

The Llano Group will host a networking mixer on Thursday, Sept. 19, at 5:30 p.m. Potential members can meet at the Holiday Inn in South Lubbock at 6107 Justice Ave.
