Organizers of the ABC Pro Rodeo announced the Mallet Event Center in Levelland will host the 2020 rodeo. It's scheduled for April 2 through 4, 2020.

A temporary location is being announced because the Municipal Coliseum and Auditorium is now gone. As we reported Monday, the steering committee for the Lubbock County Expo Center is confident that project is on-track, to be opened by 2021.

"Even though the coliseum was going away, the ABC Rodeo wouldn't," Leslie Cox with AMBUCS said. "We just had to figure out where to go and where we could go."

Cox said it was a process finding a new arena. She said the organization toured several different facilities before deciding on the Mallet Event Center.

The arena holds more than 1,900 people. While that does not compare to the coliseum, Cox said they are looking outside the box for other revenue opportunities. This includes utilizing the Mallet's Expo Center and adding some events throughout that week.

"We were able to do various things that we weren't able to do at the coliseum," Cox said. "We're really just able to open up some of those opportunities."
