Lubbock County Commissioners pushing for expansion of I-27
Lubbock County is urging the federal government to re-visit the Interstate Highway system and expand I-27.
The Ports to Plains Alliance wants the Interstate to eventually go from Laredo to Canada.
The project has been in the works for more than 25 years. The alliance has been asking counties and cities along the proposed corridor to levy support for expanding the system.
Lubbock County Commissioners unanimously approved the resolution and Judge Curtis Parrish says the county's behind the proposal 100 percent.
"Our good and our agriculture industry in West Texas is totally dependent on the transportation of getting those good to the people, so we're totally in support of the extension of I-27," he said.
The House Ways and Means Committee has held hearings on expanding the Interstate. Lubbock Congressman Jodey Arrington wants it in President Trump's big infrastructure plan.
Unfortunately, the gridlock between President Trump and House Speak Nancy Pelosi has put that project on apparent, indefinite hold.
