Services honor those who made ultimate sacrifice for nation
On Memorial Day we honor all service members who gave their lives in service to our country. Veterans support organizations in the South Plains area honored the fallen at Resthaven Funeral Home Monday morning.
One of the featured guests was Retired Air Force Chief Masters Sergeant Amos L. Hastings, Jr. He listened to a service name 20 combat veterans who lost their lives in the past year.
Chief Masters Sergeant Hastings described the moment as sobering and meaningful, for all those who have served.
"Memorial Day, to me, means a time to honor all fallen comrades," Hastings said. "This saying that I picked up on this year, Happy Memorial Day...wrong. It's not a happy occasion. It's a solemn occasion to remember all who gave the ultimate sacrifice. Their life."
The tribute included the assembly of the Soldier's Cross, posting of colors, the National Anthem, Pledge of Allegiance and songs to honor America and the fallen.
