Alpha Tau Omega raises money for Alström Angels
Texas Tech students and volunteers raised more than $5,000 to support Alstrom Angels, through a basketball and volleyball tournament Sunday.
The Alpha Tau Omega fraternity sponsors the tournament each year.
Alström Angels supports children suffering from the rare disease Alström Syndrome.
According to the Angels' website, Alström Syndrome is a rare, hereditary genetic disorder first described by Dr. Carl Henry Alström in Sweden in 1959. Since that time, there have been just more than 1,000 individuals diagnosed with Alström Syndrome in medical history. The condition causes blindness, deafness, diabetes and organ failure.
