Lubbock is full of talented artists in a variety of mediums. FOX34 is recognizing these artists every day on "Good Day Lubbock" by featuring work on our set. Every few weeks, you will see new pieces and you can check here for information about the artists and how to see more of their work.
From the Artist:
As a metalsmith and artist, I begin with raw materials to create artwork that transcends the allure of simply adorning the body; it illuminates personal presentation and facilitates an individual expression. Every piece starts out as flat sheets of raw copper and brass and takes shape by using a jeweler's saw. Patina, oxidation, hammering, and etching are added to incorporate texture as a distinctive quality. Each piece takes 25-60+ hours to create; from the start of the first cut to the last application of wax. This does not include time spent conceptualizing or the design process.
Metalsmithing and jewelry designing allows me to channel my soul through the art of creating one-of-a-kind, never reproduced, intimate pieces that truly "connect" with the wearer. I feel as though every time a person places a piece of my art on their body, or even in their home, we are then forever joined through the energies of shared space and time. This theory reinforces my belief in anything handmade.
I will be featured in the 21st Annual Take In the Local Color! Lubbock's Artist Studio Tour on November 11th and 12th, 2017.
