'Beloved' storm chasers killed in crash near Spur
The weather community is mourning the loss of three storm chasers killed in a crash Tuesday.
"This afternoon we learned that three people died in a car accident in Texas, including two contractors for the Weather Channel, Kelley Williamson and Randy Yarnall," the company stated in a release after troopers publicly identified the victims. "Kelley and Randy were beloved members of the weather community."
Troopers said all three were killed when their vehicles collided west of Spur. DPS reported a black suburban disregarded a stop sign on FM 1081 and hit a black Jeep that was headed west on FM 2794.
The driver of the Suburban, Kelley Williamson, 57, was ejected and the only victim not wearing his seat belt, according to DPS.
His passenger and fellow storm tracker, Randall Yarnall, 55, also of Cassville, died at the scene. The pair starred in The Weather Channel's "Storm Wranglers."
The driver of the Jeep was identified as storm chaser Corbin Lee Jaeger, 25, of Peoria, Arizona.
The crash is still under investigation.
All three were chasing tornadoes in the area.
