HOUSTON (AP) - Sam Ehlinger threw for 279 yards and three touchdowns, Jake Smith caught six passes for 75 yards and two touchdowns and No. 12 Texas rebounded from its first loss of the season with a 48-13 rout of Rice.
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) - Freshman Isaiah Spiller ran for 116 yards and two touchdowns and Kellen Mond threw for 317 yards with a touchdown pass and a run in three quarters to lead No. 16 Texas A&M to a 62-3 rout of Lamar. Spiller shined in the first game since Jashaun Corbin sustained a season-ending hamstring injury last week at Clemson, running for touchdowns of 1 and 34 yards. Mond was 20 of 28 with an interception.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Zack Greinke finally beat his old club and Yordan Álvarez belted a pinch-hit three-run homer as the Houston Astros beat the Kansas City Royals 6-1. Alex Bregman hit his 36th homer and rookie Kyle Tucker was 4-for-4 for the AL West-leading Astros. Greinke went six innings and handed a 2-1 lead to the bullpen. Héctor Rondón, Joe Smith, Bryan Abreu and Will Harris combined for three scoreless innings. Greinke gave up one run, six hits and no walks. He struck out seven.
TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Khalil Tate accounted for 314 yards and two touchdowns, Gary Brightwell capped a late 99-yard drive with his second touchdown run and Arizona grinded out a 28-14 win over Texas Tech. Arizona hit a few chunk plays passing, but it was the ground game that made the difference.
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - Mark Canha's two-run home run off the left-field foul pole broke a fifth-inning tie as the Oakland Athletics beat the Texas Rangers 8-6. The A's scored all their runs on homers.
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) - Darius Anderson paced a powerful rushing attack with 179 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries to help TCU beat Purdue 34-13. Sewo Olonilua chipped in with 106 yards rushing and a score for the Horned Frogs.
BERKELEY, Calif. (AP) - Quarterback Chase Garbers passed for one touchdown after using his legs to get California's offense going, Greg Thomas kicked three field goals and the Golden Bears beat North Texas 23-17. Christopher Brown Jr. ran for 47 yards and a touchdown while Cal's defense had six sacks and forced two turnovers. The Bears are 3-0 for the third time in three years under coach Justin Wilcox.
CONWAY, Ark. (AP) - Carlos Blackman scored two touchdowns, including a 3-yard run to give Central Arkansas its first lead with 1:30 to play, and the Bears beat Abilene Christian 31-30. Blackman finished with eight carries for 16 yards and added a career-high 12 receptions for 82 yards and a TD.
