LBK case update 02/03/2021

Two more people have died from COIVD-19 and its complications in Lubbock the city confirmed Wednesday. 678 total people have died from the virus since mid-March. 

The Lubbock health department reported 62 new cases of COVID-19. This brings the total number of active cases to 1,489. During the city's weekly COVID-19 update, city leaders said more people have received the first dose of the vaccine than there are active cases in the county. 

98 more people have recovered from a known case, with 45,028 total recoveries reported.

90 people are being treated in a Lubbock hospital, with 29 patients in an ICU.

The 22-county region's most recent hospitalization rate, according to city data, is 9.58 percent. Yesterday the Texas Department of State Health Services approved our region to ease COVID-19 restrictions and is no longer considered an area of high hospitalizations.

This means businesses can expand occupancy from 50 percent to 75 percent. Bars may now reopen at 50 percent occupancy.
