WOLFFORTH, Texas (KJTV) - Frenship ISD has just opened a new middle school, Alcove Trails, and will soon open a new elementary school and high school as well. Superintendent Michelle McCord spoke about the massive growth.

“It is amazing. When I came to Frenship in 2010, I think we were just shy of 7,000 students and now we are 11,500,” she said. “We’re not building schools, we’re really building community. And also, were also building these schools because we have more children here in our schools, and so because of that growth – then our schools get crowded.”

McCord came to Frenship in 2010, and has continued to see more and more students every year.

“When we open our second high school, Frenship will have its 90th birthday,” McCord said. “So, the 1935-36 school year was the first year – and as you look at the enrollment population across those 88 years, we have grown every year except in the early 90′s when the Reese Air Force Base closed, and then after that, it’s grown!”

With such expansion comes many challenges, especially with finances and the over difficulty of dealing with change.

“And again, newness and change are exciting, but they can cause a little bit of anxiety as well, but we try to focus on the positive parts of the growth which are: people want to be here,” McCord said.

Even as the district has evolved, McCord says the foundation has remained the same.

“Our beliefs don’t change, and certainly our vision doesn’t change,” she said. “We seek perfection knowing that none of us are perfect, but that we’re going to work diligently to capture excellence. That doesn’t change!”
