LPD: Woman charged with manslaughter in connection with 2022 crash

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - A Lubbock woman is in custody after a crash in 2022 left another woman dead.

On Dec. 23, 2022, police were called to a crash near 45th Street and Avenue Q just before 11:30 p.m., according to a release. Police stated 37-year-old Akecia Ramirez was driving north on Avenue Q when she lost control of her vehicle. The vehicle struck a pole barricade and multiple other vehicles in a car lot before rolling and crashing into a light pole.

The vehicle was occupied by three people at the time of the crash, according to the release.

Ramirez and another passenger, 34-year-old Elias Ramirez, were moderately injured in the crash. They were both taken to UMC for treatment.

Jenny Ybarra, 32, was another passenger in the vehicle, according to police. She was seriously injured and died at the scene.

Police issued an arrest warrant for Ramirez on a manslaughter charge on Aug. 23; she was taken into custody on Tuesday and booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center.

Ramirez is being held on a $75,000 bond.
