LUBBOCK COUNTY, Texas (KCBD) - DPS Troopers arrested a man after a high-speed chase on Tuesday night.

Lubbock County Sheriff’s deputies attempted to pull over a white Chevrolet pick-up truck near 98th Street, according to officials. The truck then fled south on Hwy 87.

When the truck reached FM 41, it turned west and continued to flee from authorities. The truck came to a stop in the area of CR 1140, where the driver, later identified as 42-year-old Rene Guzman-Avalos, exited the vehicle and ran away.

The Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office set up a perimeter looking for Guzman-Avalos.

He was later seen by a passing motorist who alerted troopers in the area. They were able to locate and take him into custody.

He has been charged with the following:

  • Fraud using identifying info
  • Credit card or debit card abuse
  • Possession of a controlled substance
  • Evading arrest
  • Resisting arrest, search or transport

He is being held in the Lubbock County Detention Center on a combined bond of $12,000.
