POST, Texas (KJTV) - Chip Polk and his brother Glenn have been writing and starring in plays at Ragtown Theater for 16 years. “Bethlehem” is their 51st production. The upcoming show ranges feature the creation of man, the fall of man, and ends with the Birth of Christ.

“This is a really long play. It starts before the creation of man and goes all the way to the birth of Jesus, so it covers some ground,” Chip says. “We’ve got the manger scene, we’ve got the cave where Jesus was born, and a lot of people don’t realize it was a cave, so we’ve created a cave where Jesus is born. That’s the closing scene of the play.”

The Ragtown Theater isn’t all about the plays. This time of the year, the place is covered with holiday decor. However, Chip hopes visitors can keep the proper perspective.

“There’s something about the atmosphere here when people walk in the door, it’s special with every production- but with Christmas, oh goodness! It’s funny to watch people walk in the door just smiling, already just ready to soak it up,” Chip says, “Since all of our plays revolve around the person and the promise of Jesus, Christmas is the starting place for all of that.”

“Bethlehem” will not start with the opening act. Instead, Chip and others plan to perform a mini-concert, as they do before the show.

“I play and sing and by the way, during their Christmas show: We have one of Lubbock area’s favorite guys singing with me, a guy named Jeff Bailey... and Jeff is just so talented, and he’s singing with me along with Savannah Gwen.”

The play will run the first three Saturdays in December at 3 p.m. Tickets can be found at www.ragtown.com, or by calling (877) 724-8696.

“We try to entertain everybody, but we want that entertainment to have a message,” Chip says. “We want the plays to be thought-provoking and they are.”
