POST, Texas (KJTV) - All this week, Fox34 has previewed “Light Up Post,” a unique Christmas celebration coming up this weekend. That town’s iconic lighting doesn’t happen without Eddie Pitts, best known in Post as “Mr. Christmas”.

It doesn’t take long to find out why Eddie has earned that name. When it comes to Christmas decorations, “Mr. Christmas” probably had a hand in it.

“Our city manager Rhett Parker and Meg Nelson, they had a vision. He wanted an oil derrick, so I went home and built him an oil derrick. He wanted cows, so up by the pumpjack- I built cows,” he says, “We’re kind of making (the west side of downtown) more a tribute to our heritage: the oil, the ranching, and stuff for Christmas.”

Mr. Christmas is currently working on his own float for Saturday’s highly-anticipated parade.

“And this year is especially good, because we’ve got other municipalities coming. They’re bringing their antique fire trucks. It’s hopefully going to be one of the biggest parades that we’ve had ever,” Pitts says.

Julia Childs, editor & publisher of the Post Dispatch, says one of her favorite parts of the parade is the different places on the path- all thought out with purpose.

“Now, one of the neatest things that they’ll do is: they do take a little detour by the nursing home before they come downtown, and we’ll come downtown, travel east toward the railroad tracks, turn around, and come back toward the courthouse, and it all will take place right here on Main Street.”

Pitts credits a renewed excitement in Post to city manager Rhett Parker.
