LITTLEFIELD, Texas (KCBD) - Littlefield ISD Superintendent Mike Read issued this statement on Wednesday, mourning the death of Littlefield ISD senior Malachi Frausto, killed in a Wednesday morning crash that happened about three miles east of Littlefield on FM 54.

As the designated spokesperson and Superintendent for the Littlefield Independent School District, I am issuing the following statement.

It is with an extremely heavy heart that I report that Littlefield ISD senior, Malachi Frausto, passed away this morning following a motor vehicle accident. The entire Littlefield community is saddened by this event, and words cannot express the grief we feel about the loss of Malachi. Malachi was an important part of the Littlefield school community, and his teachers, coaches, band directors, and fellow students will miss him greatly. We extend our deepest condolences to Malachi’s family and encourage everyone to provide support to them in their time of painful loss.

Out of respect for Malachi and his family, and due to state and federal privacy laws, the District will not disclose any further information about Malachi or make any additional comment concerning this matter. We appreciate your cooperation, and continued support for Malachi’s family. We ask you to keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

According to DPS, Frausto was traveling west on FM 54 in his Silverado. A semi, traveling eastbound on FM 54, was approaching when Frausto drifted into the eastbound lane. The driver of the semi veered out of the way; however, Frausto struck its rear wheels, and the front portion of the trailer it was pulling.

The driver of the semi was not injured.

Littlefield ISD has opened an account at First Bank and Trust in Malachi Frausto’s name. All proceeds collected will go towards funeral expenses. You can go to First Bank and Trust at any time during normal banking hours to donate to this cause. Any donations will be greatly appreciated.
