LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - The Department of Public Safety responded to multiple crashes involving two semi-trucks and eight other vehicles on Hwy 62/82 between Lubbock and Idalou.

The semi-truck drivers had stopped on the roadway during the storm while visibility was poor, the DPS said in a statement. Other vehicles on the road were unable to see the two semi-trucks and began crashing into the back of the trailers.

The Aug 29 wrecks caused westbound traffic to be delayed and rerouted. The crashes occurred at the intersection of FM 1729 and 62/82.

The series of crashed happened just after 6:30 p.m.

Motorists were urged to avoid the area if possible.

According to DPS, three people were transported to the hospital. One person suffered serious injuries, but is now stable.
