Our Town: Lamesa Municipal Airport
LAMESA, Texas (KJTV) - There are several reasons why a community develops pride in their town. For Lamesa one reason is their airport.
The Lamesa Municipal Airport was built in 1955 and there’s been many improvements since then.
“In 2014, we started building a new terminal and were able to build a new terminal in 2015 with a grant from our local Weaver Foundation,” airport manage John Farris said. “And then in 2016, we were able to through a TxDOT grant put in an automated weather station. And so that makes our airport a lot more desirable for pilots as they come in to fly around.”
Because of these improvements, Lamesa was named the Airport of the Year in 2017. They are constantly working to make it a good destination for pilots.
“In our new terminal we have a pilot’s lounge which is equipped with computers and so forth. We also have two courtesy cars that can be used by people who travel through the country.

Farris says the summer months are a busier time for the airport than in the winter.
“We get a lot of cross country people landing here that refuel. We also have a good amount of jets flying in occasionally for business purposes here in Lamesa,” Farris said, “and so we have a pretty active little airport and we’re real proud of the airport and we continue to improve.”
Lamesa Municipal Airport is putting Lamesa on the aviation map, as a popular destination.
