LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - A semi-pro soccer team will begin their first season in the Hub city starting in May.

The Matadors have already seen an overwhelming amount of support with nearly 600 season ticket holders before the season begins.

Represented through the National Premier Soccer League, general manager Dustin McCorkle said The Matadors would play off in the Lone Star conference battling teams from around the state.

“We’re now bringing a team to Lubbock that we can show the kids in this community that you can go play a high level of soccer, and you don’t have to go drive five hours or have a bunch of money to be able to do that,” McCorkle said.

Many of the athletes on the team come from across the globe. One player is from Frenship.

McCorkle said players will be practicing and inspiring future athletes in our area.

“We’re going to have them doing some training and developing with our younger youth. And I’m really excited to get them in the community and be representative as ambassadors of Lubbock, Texas,” McCorkle said

The schedule for games will be released next week and the stadium where the games will be held.
