LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - Lubbock has lost a pediatrician described as legendary.
Dr. Karen Rogers built a resource for families with children with special needs related to development and behavior.
Dr. Rogers died this week. Dr. Doug Klepper, also a pediatrician, says thousands of families in this region benefitted from her expertise. He explains, “Karen worked with a wide range of children ranging from autism which a lot of people used her for, but also learning disabilities, profound emotional and mental difficulties. One of the biggest things in her heart as she was actually a member of the state board that helped with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. She was the leading expert in our region in the state of Texas and worked very hard for those children to get the services.”
Dr. Rogers worked with UMC and Covenant and was a mentor at the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center for anyone studying pediatrics. Dr. Klepper says, “It’s a tremendous loss and will be felt for many years forward, but because of the level of care that she’s provided for this area, the children in this area are going to be better off even though she’s gone.”
Services for Dr. Karen Rogers are planned for Saturday, March 12th at 2:00 at Bacon Heights Baptist Church.
Dr. Rogers was 52.
