LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - Clouds and fog give way to mostly sunny skies and warmer afternoons today into the weekend.

As of late Thursday morning, no weather advisories are in effect - and none are expected - in and near the KCBD viewing area. Any remaining fog will clear out by late morning.

A mostly sunny sky returns to the area this afternoon. It will be, however, chilly. Temperatures will peak in the 40s. Adding to the chill, a northeasterly breeze of 10 to 20 mph.

Mostly cloudy and very cold tonight. Temperatures will dip into the teens in the western and northern KCBD viewing area with 20s elsewhere. Lubbock will be right on the cusp, with a low near 20 degrees.

After a few morning clouds, Friday will be sunny and the afternoon a little warmer. Lubbock-area highs will range from near 50 degrees to the low 50s. Wind speeds will be light. It will be a cool but nice afternoon.

More moderate temperatures return this weekend. Still, lows will be in the 20s. Highs, however, will be in the 60s. Both days will get a little breezy. Sunny Saturday and partly cloudy Sunday.

Early next week our mornings won’t be quite as cold, and our afternoon highs will climb into the 60s.

Two-tenths of an inch of snowfall was recorded yesterday at the Lubbock Airport. The total for the month, the year, and the season, to date is 1.0″. For the season-to-date, that is 3.8″ below average.

The liquid content of all precipitation yesterday was 0.03″ (Lubbock Airport). The total for January is 0.20″. That’s 0.34″ below average. The year-to-date total is 0.20″, which is 0.34″ below average for the year-to-date.

30°F was the high temperature yesterday at the Lubbock airport, recorded just before midnight. That is 26 degrees below the average high for the date, January 26. The record high for the date is 78° (set in 1953 and tied in 1975).
