Several South Plains school districts cancel classes for remainder of week

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - Hermleigh, Lamesa, Littlefield, Post and Snyder Independent School Districts have canceled classes for the remainder of the week due to “significant numbers” of COVID-19 cases among students and staff.

According to the Snyder ISD Facebook page, the district has been facing staffing shortages since returning from Christmas break. Thursday and Friday classes were canceled. Classes will resume Tuesday, Jan. 18 following a school holiday for MLK Day.

Snyder ISD is currently reporting 104 active COVID-19 cases, 86 among students and 18 among staff. For updated COVID-19 case totals and protocols in Snyder ISD, visit https://www.snyderisd.net/page/covid.

Classes in Hermleigh ISD were canceled for Thursday and Friday and will resume Monday, Jan. 17.

Littlefield ISD announced that Friday classes would be canceled. Classes will resume Tuesday following a school holiday for MLK Day.

Post ISD also canceled Friday classes. Classes will resume Tuesday.

Lamesa ISD announced it was canceling classes Friday, Jan. 14 and Tuesday, Jan. 18. According to the school district, it had 25 percent of its student population absent Wednesday, including five percent of its student population being COVID positive. The other 20 percent absent were out with non-COVID illnesses or were following quarantine protocols.
