LUBBOCK, Texas (KJTV) - The holiday celebration for many involves Christmas lights, and Post is becoming a Christmas destination. Much of that well-deserved title is due to Eddie Pitts.

“He started putting up Christmas lights before Halloween, and I said ‘You’re going to confuse the kids!,’ but you should see his yard.  It’s wonderful.  He has a big display on Main Street, and it’s kind of like the Griswold house,” City Manager Rhett Parkers said. “There’s a lot going on, so he gets really excited about it.  We were at a conference last week, and we come home and all of the city hall was decorated for Christmas.  It was kind of a nice surprise.  He said ‘You shouldn’t have left me alone!”

Meet Mr. Christmas. Despite his love of the wrappings of Christmas, Pitts still wants to make sure we don’t forget the true meaning of this holiday.

“We’ve got so commercialized.  We’ve gotten away from what Christmas is all about.  The Cross kind of helps people remind what we’re really needing to be thinking about instead of the other,” Pitts said.

Originally from Plainview, Mr. Christmas has now called Post home for 24 years.

“Well, you have small town feel.  Just a friendliness.  You’re out of the rush hour that’s close enough to the rush hour that you can do.  Post has a different atmosphere,” he said. “It’s just one of those that everybody knows everybody, and for the majority- it’s a good thing!”

And Eddie Pitts is a good thing. A good ambassador for Christmas and the City of Post, where Christmas awaits.
