Kansas State rallies to beat Red Raiders
LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - Needing a win to become Bowl eligible, the Red Raiders jumped out to a 14 point lead, but Kansas State rallied in the second half to win 25-24.
Kansas State has won 10 of the last 11 meetings with the Red Raiders. Looking to start fast in an 11 a.m. game, the Red Raiders won the toss and took the ball first.
On the jet sweep, Erik Ezukanma with a 45 yard touchdown run put Tech up 7-0 just thirty seconds into the game.
On the ensuing kickoff, Kansas State fumbled. The Red Raiders recovered and that led to a SaRodorick Thompson 1 yard touchdown run.
Texas Tech led 14-0 less than four minutes into the game.
In the second quarter, Thompson had a four yard touchdown run to give the Red Raiders a 21-7 lead.
Jonathan Garibay added a 27 yard field goal to give Tech a 24-10 halftime lead.
In the third, Kansas State had a nine point swing getting a safety tacking Thompson in the End Zone and then Deuce Vaughn’s two yard touchdown run cut the Red Raiders lead to 24-19.
Kansas State was driving to take the lead, but Colin Schooler caused a fumble and recovered it giving the Red Raiders the ball.
The Wildcats took the lead in the 4th after getting a first down on a Red Raider hands to the face penalty on third and 34.
That lead to a Deuce Vaughn touchdown reception. Two point try was not good and the Wildcats led 25-24 with 6:09 left.
Texas Tech falls to 5-3 overall. They visit #3 Oklahoma 2:30pm next Saturday.
