Free Lubbock Book Festival at Mahon Library celebrates local authors
LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - The free, two-day long Lubbock Book Festival kicks off Saturday, Sept. 25 at Mahon Library to celebrate literacy, creativity and stories.
There will be more than 40 award-winning and best-selling authors in attendance - including KCBD NewsChannel 11′s Karin McCay with her The Magic Mommy series. Karin will discuss creating valuable stories for children on Sunday at 1:15 p.m. in the Community Room at Mahon Library.
Other authors will be discussing many other genres they represent with panels and writing workshops. These discussions and workshops are for the tiniest of tots to the experienced reader, from YA fiction to crime thriller and everything in between.
There will be book signings, book sales, family-fun crafts and activities, a massive used book sale courtesy of Friends of the Library, outdoor entertainment, food trucks and more.
This event also functions as a fundraiser for Literacy Lubbock’s educational programs. “Our mission is to change lives through literacy, one person at a time. Please, help us fight back against Lubbock County’s 13 percent illiteracy rate by attending!” officials wrote in a news release.
