TAHOKA, Texas (KJTV) - Every fall for 45 years, one of the highlights in Tahoka is the Harvest Festival.  The event is more than just for Tahoka, it’s really for all of Lynn County and beyond.

“It is something where family and friends get together, they have a great time, we have  so many activities and games and stuff. Plus we have a queen and princesses riding in a duchess contest this year to.”

Fun, food, games, and shopping….and when you mention games, you haven’t lived until you’ve been a part of cow patty bingo.

“We have what’s called cow patty bingo, I believe it’s the junior class puts on, and it’s a great fundraiser for the class. Pretty much you sit there and choose a number and pay so much to get that number and wait for the cow to go to the bathroom.”

The event is free, but you have the chance to win prizes. Harvest Festival has given out between $75 and $100,000 over the past 45 years. It’s a way to give back to the community.

“Our queens contest we do a scholarship, our duchess that we’re adding in we’re doing a dual credit type of scholarship, because the queens are going to be for the seniors. The duchess is going to be for the freshman to the juniors. So most of them do a lot of dual credits at school so that will help them pay for that. And then our Princesses get $500.”

Marisa was born and raised in Tahoka. She and her family have been gone for 10 years, but it was time to come home.  She sees a lot of changes on the horizon for her home town with an exciting future ahead.

“I want to see it thrive, I want to see it brought back alive and us have good times together. Everybody be, just enjoy being in the town of Tahoka, have shops and restaurants and stuff like that.”
