LUBBOCK, Texas (KJTV) - What’s so special about living in Seminole? The best person to answer that question is someone who served as Mayor of this Gaines County town and also served on the school board.

“I was born and raised here in Seminole Gaines County,” Carter said. “I’ve never found a better place or better people. If I would have I would of got there as fast as I could.”

The difference is the people. Notably, the agriculture community and also the development of Water technology. Conversation in Gaines County is huge.

“We’re on the tail end of the Ogallala here and getting out crops 18 mile from town so we’re kinda at the end of the trough,” Carter said.

This has forced the farming community to do a better job of managing the resources that have been given to them. The community at large has rallied around the motto of the Seminole Indians.

“The School theme is one tribe and that’s huge here, because it does. It takes a tribe to raise these kids and I’ve seen it time and time again and any need the people just pour out there hearts and come together,” Carter said. “We live together, we cry together, and we rejoice together and that’s the best thing about Seminole.”

Carter admits smaller communities do not offer as many choices as you have in a big city, but Seminole more than makes up for that.

“What it makes up for in the personal tight knit and everybody does know everybody’s business in a small town that is a true cliché, but its nice when you need them,” Carter said.

Something else to brag about if you’re from this Gaines County seat. Seminole is the birthplace to country music stars Larry Gatlin and Tanya Tucker.
