LUBBOCK, Texas (KJTV) - Summertime weather seems like it’s here to stay. It’s a great opportunity for people to get out and get moving, something many have been deprived of over the past year. LHUCA is helping that effort with ‘Song and Dance’ mornings.

Kris Olson, or ‘Ms. Kris’ is the star of the show at ‘Song and Dance’ mornings. Ms. Kris was teaching dance at Ballet Lubbock and some local community centers when the pandemic hit. With people out of traditional classes, she found a way to keep things “moving”.

“I was out of work when the pandemic hit,” she said. “The children needed a place to be and I needed a place to be and LHUCA provided that.”

Ms. Kris has been teaching music and movement for more than 30 years and she’s a mom herself.

“I know how isolating it can be to be a parent and not have an outlet,” she said.

During song and dance time, kids of all ages can dance freely and sing along.

“People gave me tips and then the people from LHUCA said you know what, this is really awesome,” Ms. Kris said. “We’re gonna find some grant money so you don’t have to put out a tip jar and we’re going to pay you to do this. And so, it’s been lovely.”

Classes will continue through the month of May. Beyond that, she said it’s still up in the air.

“Keep your eyes open for us looking at our schedules ad seeing where we can fit it in because it’s been really fun and popular,” she said.
