Lubbock vigil for El Paso shows kids how a city and state can reunite

LUBBOCK, Texas -

Some Lubbock residents joined the grief over the shooting deaths of 22 victims in an El Paso Walmart. Sam's Club is a part of the Walmart, it hosted a vigil.

A few dozen people paid respects to the victim and their families in El Paso. They held candles in a circle and prayed for the 22 lives lost and the hundreds forever changed.

Yolanda Romero organized the event. The Sam's Club employee said even though it happened more than 300 miles away, she still felt the devastation.

"We're quite aways away from them but we're hurting with them. We're two cities apart but we're one state united," Romero stressed.

Another family came to pray for their uncle who was shot inside the store. Ashley Dillman brought her kids to show them how a state and a city can reunite.

"I'm mad," Dillman said. "I know it's about racism and I want change. I hate that my kids have to be in this evil world, but good can come of it."

Others at the vigil expressed how they still have questions. They were feeling fear and sadness. However, the overall message was love is much stronger than hate.
