Speer to challenge Burrows in TX-83 primary

(update Wednesday, Aug. 7) - David Speer announced his candidacy for Texas House of Representative, District 83 this morning at the New Deal Club House. His main talking point was Lubbock's need for a representative who is involved in the community.

New Deal Band Director David Speer says he will announce his candidacy for the Texas House next week. He plans to challenge Texas House Republican Caucus Chairman Dustin Burrows in the primary.

According to a news release from Speer, he is in his 16th year of teaching in public schools.

“District 83 deserves a Representative who produces positive, supporting relationships with constituents," Speer said in the news release. "Someone who will visit them in person and advocate for their views in the Texas Legislature. When elected, I will focus on the issues that I know relate to my neighbors and to people in every other community across District 83: Liberty, Education, and Family."

Speer has scheduled a campaign kick-off Wednesday morning outside the New Deal Club House.

A Democrat has already announced plans to run. Snyder small business owner and activist Addison Perry-Franks said a few weeks ago she's running for equality and unity in equal rights for the LGBT community, minorities and women's rights.
