ROSWELL, New Mexico -

The Roswell Fire Department announced the passing of Fire Apparatus Operator Jeff Stroble.

The department says Stroble died in a Lubbock hospital Sunday after battling to recover from his injures sustained in an explosion on June 5. He was 46.

Roswell City Manager Joe Neeb released the following statement requesting flags to be flown at half-staff until Stroble's funeral:

First I would like to offer my deepest condolences to the family of Jeff Stroble and to the Roswell Fire Department. The City of Roswell grieves with those affected by the passing of one of our own.

As a mark of respect for the memory and longstanding service of Roswell Firefighter Jeff Stroble, Mayor Kintigh requests a decree authorizing all flags to be flown at half-staff at all City of Roswell public buildings and grounds until Fire Apparatus Operator Stroble's funeral.

We request that all businesses and private residences do the same, out of respect. May we all unite in prayer for Mr. Stroble's family to find comfort in this trying time.

Services will be announced once arrangements have been finalized.

A procession was held Monday afternoon as members of the Roswell Fire Department escorted Stoble's body from the Roswell Air Center to the Anderson-Bethany Funeral Home in Roswell.

Roswell police along with other local and state agencies also served as escorts.
