Managed Care Center closes suddenly, other providers accommodate

LUBBOCK, Texas -

Managed Care Center provided drug abuse treatment services for adults in the South Plains.

The center closed with apparently no announcement Monday.

"Managed Care's been a part of the community for many years in Lubbock," Chris Wyatt, assistant director of BHive Recovery Ministry, said, "and it's a scary thing."

Not many people can afford drug or alcohol rehab, Wyatt said.

"(Managed Care) was one of the things that really helped those that didn't have a certain insurance or didn't have the money to be able to go get the help that they needed," he said.

BHive is taking in as many of Managed Care's clients as it can, Wyatt said, and placing them in homes.

"We've tried to make some room, just to take these girls and guys in, and give them a home, so that they didn't feel like they were just left in the dark," he said.

The ministry also provides recovery treatment for those who are struggling with addiction. Wyatt said BHive has received a lot of support to make it happen. Many have donated food, mattresses, blankets and hygiene products to help accommodate the new patients.

"Its been a beautiful thing, because when you get an influx of clients like that, you have to make some adjustments," he said.

Anyone who was receiving treatment at Managed Care can go to BHive for help, Wyatt said.
