Workforce Solutions awards scholarships to two students in Youth Program

LUBBOCK, Texas -

Workforce Solutions honored job creators and employers across the South Plains.

It provided scholarships to two students in its Youth Program. Daniel Rodriguez, from Plainview, and Kittannah Marie Pena, from Lubbock, were both awarded $1,000.

CEO Martin Aguierre said finding good employers is like recruiting for athletics, you're always looking for good examples.

"It's one of those things where it's like you're recruiting and you're always looking for good examples of how to do it well," he said. "So they coordinate with our offices, they hire people from us, they teach us things like screening applicants and how to make referrals. So we're looking to improve the quality of our efforts."

Rodriguez and Pena trained with Workforce Solutions and are ready to further their education and start their careers.
