Lubbock man injured in overnight shooting

LUBBOCK, Texas -

A man was hospitalized with life threatening injuries after a shooting on the 2400 block of 8th St. early Friday morning.

Police report just before 1 a.m., the victim, Nemar Kelly, was shot outside a party and left lying in the street.

Upon arrival, police found Kelly in the street with a woman holding pressure to his injuries.

He had gunshot wounds to his left shoulder and left hip, according to a police report. Officers took over holding pressure until EMS arrived on scene. Kelly was transported to University Medical Center.

The witness told police she and Kelly were walking out to a vehicle parked on the roadway, about to leave, when she mistook the first shot as fireworks, then saw Kelly fall to the ground, according to the report. That is when she ran to him and began applying to pressure to his injuries.

The witness told police she did not see the shooter.

A suspect has not been identified at this time.
