Dan Law, namesake of Tech baseball field, dead at 87

A Red Raider whose name is forever tied to Texas Tech athletics died Monday evening. Dan Law, who was an Army veteran, played two sports during his time at Texas Tech. He was 87.

Law was on the football team from 1955 to '56 and the baseball team from 1956 to '57.

Although he was from Alabama, Law became a West Texan through and through, and an adamant supporter of his alma mater. He was named to the Texas Tech Athletics Hall of Honor in 1984.

Because of his contributions to renovating the baseball field in the '80s, Tech named it after him in 1988. He was often seen right behind home plate and remained a regular fixture in the stands all the way through the 2018 season.

There's been an outpouring of remembrances online. The Saddle Tramps tweeted about the man they made an honorary member because he embodies their values including dependability, hard work and a job well done.

Tech Baseball Coach Tim Tadlock said the team loved seeing him at their games:

Law was proceeded in death by his wife of 60 years, Jeane Law, in 2014. Funeral services are pending at this time.
