Habitat for Humanity dedicates new home to Lubbock mother, children

LUBBOCK, Texas -

A mother and her four children have a new home thanks to Habitat for Humanity.

The organization hosted a dedication ceremony for Felicia Mayo and her family Friday morning, celebrating the completion of the project and presenting Mayo the keys to her new house.

She is the third homeowner in the new Talkington Addition in East Lubbock.

Each Habitat homeowner must put at least 100 hours toward constructing their own home and complete 150 hours of education.

"It just means a lot to know this is something you actually contributed to -- it just means that much more knowing that it was more than just a financial thing, that it was actually sweat and tears that went into it," Mayo said.

Mayo participated in this program so her kids can "have something," she said. She hopes this will teach them how to maintain their own houses one day.

To volunteer your time to provide these opportunities, contact Habitat for Humanity's local office at 806-763-4663.
