LUBBOCK, Texas -

The Lubbock State Supported Living Center celebrated 50 years of service with a day-long commemoration for residents, staff and the community Friday.

Festivities included a parade, a ribbon cutting ceremony and tours of the center.

The center opened in 1969 and provides residential and medical care, as well as vocational training to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Today, the home has more than 180 residents.

"Thank you for the passion and the love that everyone has," Jeff Griffith, District 3 Councilman, said at the celebration. "This is a phenomenal institution for our community."

The living center honored its volunteers, thanking them for their contributions. Staff said things like Christmas gifts and daily interactions would not happen without them.

To help provide those, contact the center at 806-763-7041.
