Man accused of hitting, choking wife indicted

LUBBOCK, Texas -

A man accused of beating and choking his wife has been indicted by a Lubbock grand jury.

Officers responded to multiple calls of a domestic disturbance near 51st street and Bangor Ave. Police report Johnny Tello, 21, hit and choked his wife, according to a police report.

The victim told officers Tello would not let her inside their apartment because she got home late from work. That's when she climbed onto the porch balcony to get in through the window, but they were locked.

The victim told police she started banging on the balcony doors for Tello to let her in. The victim claims he opened the door and started hitting her in the face multiple times. She told police Tello then pushed her down the balcony, causing her to hit her head on a chair, according to the police report.

Police report, while the victim was on the ground, Tello stood on her throat with his shoe. The victim told officers he also grabbed her neck and choked her with one hand.

Investigating officers said the victim's injuries were consistent with her story.

Tello faces a charge of assault domestic violence with strangulation. He is held on a $5,000 bond.

Editorial note: This story was updated to replace "strangling" with "choking". While the indictment charge is assault domestic violence strangle, the victim was not killed.
