LUBBOCK, Texas -

A man is now in custody, arrested early Tuesday morning for the murder of Cristino Gil Ortiz III in central Lubbock.

Michael Anthony Jimenez, 38, is charged with murder. The Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit and Abilene Police arrested him in Abilene.

Ortiz was found stabbed to death at his home at the Lakeview Apartments near 38th Street and Avenue U on February 1. Ortiz, an Army veteran, had recently been placed at the apartment by Vetstar, according to LPD.

Jimenez stated he was homeless and told police Ortiz invited Jimenez to live with him. An arrest warrant indicates Ortiz was upset with Jimenez for not having a job to help pay rent and the two started arguing. Detectives report Jimenez admitted to stabbing Ortiz multiple times after getting upset over the insults.

Ortiz was found with more than 12 stab wounds, according to the arrest warrant. Metro Special Investigators report Jimenez did not suffer any injuries or defensive wounds from the fight.

Jimenez told detectives he wrapped up Ortiz in bed sheets, placed him under the bed and, after using bleach and ammonia to clean up the blood, "drank a few beers and watched TV".

Ortiz's body wasn't found for three months after the incident. Investigators report finding Jimenez's fingerprints in the apartment when they found Ortiz on Feb. 1.

Jimenez was known to be homeless. He was found in Abilene Monday. Less than a day later, he was in custody in the Taylor County Detention Center.

He is held on a $150,000 bond.
