Frenship graduate appointed by Rep. Arrington to U.S. Naval Academy

LUBBOCK, Texas -

A Frenship High School graduate has been accepted into the U.S. Naval Academy and will begin classes in the fall.

Calob Andrade was honored during a Welcome Aboard event hosted by the Naval Academy Parent Club at the Silent Wings Museum.

Andrade was appointed to the academy by Rep. Jodey Arrington. The Naval Academy prepares young men and women to become professional military officers in the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps.

After being shipped off, Andrade will endure a seven-week training program before classes start.

Amy Bailey is a volunteer with the parent club. She said young military personnel need support during this challenging time.

"So, they just need all of the encouragement that they can get and know that they have people at home who are praying for them and cheering them on and wishing them well," she said. "And just that we're so proud of their hard work and dedication to get where they are."

16 other 2019 Frenship graduates also enlisted in the military, with Andrade being the only one selected for the U.S. Naval Academy.
