Slight chance for storms tonight, hotter Friday

LUBBOCK, Texas -

Nice start to this Thursday morning with temperatures a little cooler than yesterday.

TODAY: Cloud cover increasing for a partly cloudy day, warmer though with the high near 85. South wind will become breezy increasing 15-25mph. Likely to have storms developing in Colorado and New Mexico along the dry line.

TONIGHT: Storms that develop may push into our area later tonight into the early morning hours if they can hold together. These storms will be moving from the northwest to the southeast. Low near 66, mostly cloudy with the breezy wind backing off after midnight.

FRIDAY: Temperatures continue to climb with the high near 95. If you plan on being outdoors wear plenty of sunscreen and stay hydrated. We have a layer of warmer air aloft (called a cap) and if this can be broken with day time heating we may have some storms developing. I have put a slight chance for storms, but if the cap holds we will stay dry.

FATHERS DAY WEEKEND: HOT Saturday as highs climb to the upper 90s with some triple digits possible in our area. A storm system will move across the region and this will change our upper levels back to a northwesterly flow. Temperatures will return to near normal Sunday and continue into next week. Might have another round of storms into Monday again moving from the northwest.

Have a great Thursday! Matt in with the latest forecast tonight on the News at Nine.
