Lubbock Subway franchise pays nearly $80,000 in back wages

LUBBOCK, Texas -

Some current or former Subway managers in Lubbock can expect back-pay from a franchise owner.

The U.S. Department of Labor found Shiprock Enterprise and Junior Senior Inc. will have to pay nearly $80,000 in back wages and liquidated damages. It will go to 52 employees for violating overtime requirements.

Investigators found the two Subway locations on East Slaton Road and Frankford Avenue made deductions from salaried manager pay when they worked less than a full day.

The restaurants claimed an exemption from the overtime requirements but didn't provide a guaranteed salary, one of the requirements for the exemption.

An investigation found most managers worked between 55 and 60 hours a week.
