LUBBOCK, Texas -

A Lubbock man accused of trying to burn down his mother's home in north Lubbock must take a plea deal or face a jury.

Lubbock grand jurors indicted Juan Martinez Jr., 35, on a first degree arson charge.

Court records indicate Martinez was high on meth and started harassing his family at a home near north University and Auburn a few weeks ago.

The family left, and later that night, they came back to see a fire in the house. Investigators report Martinez tried blocking all the doors and windows to conceal the fire.

Martinez's arrest warrant indicates he called his mother threatening to come back and finish the job.
