Council set to confirm interim police chief

LUBBOCK, Texas -

Lubbock's City Council is set to confirm the appointment of Jerry Brewer as the Lubbock Police Department's interim Police Chief during its Tuesday night meeting.

Brewer's appointment follows the retirement of Police Chief Greg Stevens. Stevens will be retiring from his position for the City of Lubbock on May 31. He will begin serving as Chief of Police for the Rockport Police Department in June.

Brewer previously served as interim police chief in June of 2015 after the city manager demoted Police Chief Roger Ellis to Captain.

Brewer has been with LPD for about 30 years.

The city council meeting will start at 4:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers inside City Hall.
