South Plains Food Bank to host Conquer Hunger Food Run

LUBBOCK, Texas -

The South Plains Food Bank Summer of Sharing is on and to kick-off the month-long fundraiser it'll host its 10th annual Conquer Hunger Food Run.

The race will be held as Mackenzie Park on Memorial Day with a one mile rake and a 5-K.

Participants can bring non-perishable donations to the race or donate online

This year, runners are encouraged to wear a superhero costume and help battle food insecurity.

"The fun thing about it is, is that we want to embody everyone to be a hero in their community. And so we want to see some superhero costumes. We want to see everybody really embracing that and realizing that this is making a difference. We are being heroes, so we want to see those costumes." Cheri Geriwig, with the Jesus Christ Church of Latter-Day Saints, said.

Most needed food items include; shelf-stable milk, canned fish or poultry, canned or dried beans, canned fruits or vegetables, brown rice, whole grain cereal, whole wheat pasta, soup, chili, and stew, %100 fruit juice, peanut butter, macaroni and cheese, full meals in a can/box, "pop-top" food items.
