Midland County Deputy struck by train, suffers minor injuries

Midland, TX -

A Midland County Deputy is out of the hospital after colliding with a train.

The deputy was trying to go around a stopped train at an intersection on Highway 80. One train had backed up to allow deputies to pass, blocking his view of a second oncoming engine.

Midland County Sheriff Gary Painter reports he was responding to a call about a baby not breathing.

The second deputy was able to pull the injured one out of the unit through the windshield. He only suffered minor injuries.

Union Pacific reports it's working with State Troopers to determine whether anything could have been done to prevent the crash.
