Look Around Lubbock: Buckner Family Hope Center

The Buckner Family Hope Center of Lubbock opened on March 7 and offers preventative education and services to reduce the rate of family disintegration and number of children who end up in the system. Services include parent education classes, job skills training, financial empowerment, family coaching, programming for children, counseling and spiritual enrichment. All programming is free. 

The Buckner Adult Education Programs are designed to equip adults with practical knowledge and skills to achieve goals for themselves and their families and learn foundational education needed for individuals desiring to pursue additional job skills or vocational training. 

ESL classes: May 27 to July 31, Monday & Wednesday, 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

GED classes: May 27 to July 31, Wednesday-Friday, 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Financial Literacy classes: May 28 to July 30, Tuesday, 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

The Buckner Child and Youth Development Programs are designed to positively impact the lives of at-risk children and their families through activities that provide academic enhancements, social development, character development and practical life skills. 

Child Development & Play: May 29 to June 26, Wednesday, 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Difficult Family Discussions: May 29 to July 31, Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. 

Summer Reading Fun: June 11 to July 27, Tuesday, 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Code Academy: July 2 to July 30, Tuesday, 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. 

Summer Day Camp is Monday through Friday operating during summer months. Social skills and Bible lessons are stressed in a high energy and exciting environment, along with crafts, recreation and other small group activities. 

Sports and Arts & Crafts Camp: June 3 to June 7

Vocational Bible School Camp: June 3 to June 28

The Spectacular Summer Slam is Saturday, May 18 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Learn about all of the programs and events happening throughout the summer and talk with instructors and register for classes and camps. 

The Fit & Fun Fair is June 22 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and will include community vendors and volunteers teaching about nutrition, physical care, immunization, hygiene, and more.

The Community Garage Sale is July 20 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. 

Volunteers are needed for the Fit & Fun fair, groups are needed to help with childcare and tutoring, and guest instructors are need for various adult classes. Corporate sponsors are needed for events and monetary donations or donations of school supplies, hygiene products, and new shoes are accepted year round.
